The first impression you get when you look at the Nike VR Pro STR8-FIT driver is that it looks very traditional. The Nike VR Pro driver is fitted with a pear shaped head which is a total makeover of the square headed design of the SQ MachSpeed driver. I personally like the traditional head over the bulky square head of the Nike SQ MachSpeed. The pear shaped head is also said to be more arrow dynamic which increases club head speed and in turn adds distance to your drives. Another change I really like is the color, but let’s get down to specifics and the Nike VR Pro Driver Review.
Nike VR Pro Driver Review
Nike has finally gone back to a more traditional color of “Victory Red” over the old canary yellow color of drivers past. The change is nice because you’re not blinded with color while you are addressing the ball. Other features that make the Nike VR Pro Driver a must have are the 32 different face positions you can create. These positions are great because it can really help a golfer dial in their drives to any particular swing. Changing the face positions is also very easy.
The driver has markings on the head and shaft that make it easy to get the driver into any particular position. The NikeVR Pro STR8-FIT driver is a awesome club. Lets say your experiencing a slight slice that you would want to adjust for while your on the range. Instead of playing with the slice all day make the quick adjustments on the driver and your ready to go. I also have to say that this driver sounds great! This driver doesn’t pierce your ears like other drivers. This driver has a defined yet pleasant sound.

I finally decided to purchase a new driver and test drove the new Callaway Razr, Cobra s3 and the Nike VR STR8. I current used a Nike Sumo 5000. I am a mid teens handicap and had just decided that if I was going to continue to play I had to line up for my slice because that was my game. I have always gotten into trouble off the tee but would hit two or three great shots during a round and be happy. With all the new technology I decided to see if it would make a difference. My local golf dealer put me on a machine and gave me three clubs to try. The Razr was setup for a draw 11.5 with stiff shaft, the Cobra was setup with closed face (Draw) 9.5 with stiff shaft and the VR STR8 was setup with closed face (Draw) 9.5 with stiff shaft. I hit the Cobra during my 1st test round and like the way the club looked and performed. I still had a slight fade but big improvement over my old Sumo. I hit 8 of 14 fairways. My 2nd test round was with the Razr. The Razr should be illegal. I hit my longest drives with this club and the feel was very solid. I hit the same number of fairways (8 of 14) but my drives seem to be middle left and when I missed the fairways I was way left. I guess because of the draw basis. My misses with the Cobra were only a few yards right of the fairway. My final test round was with the VR STR8. WOW!!! The old saying “saved the best for last” holds true in my case. I liked the look, setup and felt comfortable over the ball. But the proof was in my 12 of 14 fairways hit. The ball continually started middle of the fairway with slight fade. The sound is distinctly different from the other two clubs. It took me a few drives to get use to the sound. My decision had been made. I went the next day and traded in the old Sumo and upgraded my game by at least 7-8 strokes. I think having confidence in a shot or your game makes up a high percentage of how you will play. This new VR STR8 has given me the confidence off the tee. I am now thinking about upgrading my irons.
Wow Gary, that’s quite the story. I’m glad it all worked out for you then – 7 to 8 strokes is HUGE. I’m a little surprised with the Callaway Razr that you said you hit your longest drives with. I’ve never actually hit that club, but now I’m curious and want to try it. I’m not a long hitter, but I can control my drives a little better than the average golfer. So an extra 10 or so yards would be great.
