Taylormade recently introduced a brand new line of drivers called RocketBallz. Yes, you read that correct, RocketBallz or for short (RBZ). So we decided to write out an initial Taylormade RocketBallz driver review before it comes out. The RBZ line was designed for extreme distances and this driver crushes the competition. Dustin Johnson was one of the first PGA Professionals to hit this driver while it was still in testing. We heard that Dustin hit this driver 300 yards on the fly! He was also getting 30 yards of roll. The dogs are out on the new line of RocketBallz.
RocketBallz Driver Review
The new line of RocketBallz drivers has the technology that tour professionals are looking for. It has been heard that Camilo Villegas and Jason Day will be some of the first PGA Professionals to sport the new line this year on tour. TaylorMade did not design this driver just for tour pro’s though. The RBZ line was also designed for you and me as well. The price is also affordable compared to other drivers that taylormade has released as you can see from our other driver reviews. This driver is retailing at $299! The Taylormade Rocketballz Driver releases on February 3, 2012.
RocketBallz Specs

Taylormade designed the new driver to be light; the combination of their lightweight grips and their lightweight shafts, makes the club weigh in at less than 300 grams. Pretty impressive! The length of the club is 46 inches. This length creates fast clubhead speeds yet allowing the golfer to still maintain control (obviously the length of the club will vary if you get it professionally fitted to you). The natural ball flight has been designed as a draw, but can be adjusted with FCT. You can get three different lofts with the RBZ model: 9.5, 10.5, and HL (high-launch). The lofts for the RBZ Tour model are 9, and 10.5 degrees.
RocketBallz and RocketBallz Tour
With this line there are two different club head options. You can choose from the RocketBallz or the RocketBallz Tour. The RocketBallz club head is larger and gives confidence to the average golfer. The RocketBallz Tour model is a bit smaller and has a deeper face. The Tour model was designed for the more advanced golfer helping him with shot shaping. Both options are cast in the traditional pear shape and features an Ultra-Thin Wall. UTW increases speeds and also increases distances by creating the trampoline effect off the club face.
Flight Control Technology
Incorporated into the RocketBallz line of drivers is Flight Control Technology (FCT). FCT is what they use to make their drivers compatible to any type of golf swing. This technology was also incorporated into the very successful R11 driver. Flight control technology allows golfers or custom fitters to adjust the performance angles of the club by the FCT sleeve. The FCT sleeve adjusts the face angle, loft and lie of the RBZ drivers. There are 8 different settings that allow you to adjust launch angles that can create 60 yards of side-to-side trajectory. FCT technology insures Taylormade that they can adjust the driver to fit your swing. Adjusting this driver is easy and fun!
Why White?
I personally love the color of the new RocketBallz driver. The color is the same “white” color as the R11 driver, but has accents of lime green on it. Also, on the side of the club, the name “RocketBallz” is printed. The club is flashy but still maintains a purpose. The white color helps you when you are addressing the ball. The color helps you align yourself with the shot your about to hit. Also, the club is easier to see and align on cloudy overcast days or if your tee box is shaded. The white color can also help with “hot spots” which can happen when the sun reflects off of dark, glossy finishes. If you have never laid a white driver down on the tee box, you should check it out.
Overall
I have always considered myself a Taylormade guy, like some of you might already know. I was not sold on the R11 driver, as you can see from our R11 driver review, but I am sold on the RocketBallz line. I have not been able to hit the club yet but when I do, I will be sure to update this post. Also, if you have had the chance to hit the club please leave a comment so we know what this thing can do. I hope you enjoyed our Taylormade RocketBallz review.
